How to Choose Wallpaper
Pick a showy floral or a geometric - whatever suits the style of your home is the right paper. But you should consider the room's exposure too. The color of the
paper will be intensified if it's a sunny day. But if the room gets little light, the same paper can really make it look bright and cheery. Plain painted walls,
while inexpensive and easy to do, will never bring the personality and character to a room quite like wallpaper.
Here are some quick tips to consider:
- Accentuating a Wall - Select just one wall to feature for a dramatic effect. In a dining room, for instance, the wall behind a sideboard can look
spectacular. Choose the mirror wall in a bathroom. Check out the wall behind the bed in a bedroom. Here a leafy pattern is just the right touch, keeping the
understated modern look, but adding just the right amount of pattern for zing.
- Create a Focal Point That is Arty - Get a mural effect with wallpapers that are scenic, such as landscapes, hunt scenes, historic homes, grand mountains. Choose
a large pattern, cut it out and position on the wall. Put frame molding around the edges. It won't be moveable, but it will look outstanding.
- Make Your Entry More Dramatic - Have a tiny entry? Choose paper that has intrigue and depth. Wallpapers with vertical lines will make the ceiling look higher. Avoid
small patterns in a small room. It can make one dizzy.
- Add an element of shine by hanging metallic papers. They will reflect light into dark corners.
